Dear Families,

November is here and the weather is finally changing to be more pleasant.  All of our lunch time activities have started and the children seem to be enjoying the variety.  There is Lego club on Monday, student council on Tuesday, garden club on Wednesday, Spelling club on Thursday, and Steppers on Friday.  The children can choose to go to these clubs instead of playing on the playground at recess.  I am looking forward to joining in Steppers club some days!
This week we continued to work on personal narratives and we edited three stories as a class.  Over the next week or so they will choose a story that they want to stick with and start more in depth editing, then we will take that story and type it, print it and illustrate the final product before we bind each story into a book.  In social studies we talked about maps.  We looked at the difference between a globe and a map as well as how to use a compass rose.  Next week we will do a bit more with maps as well as talk about elections and use our ice cream data.  The children also took a trip out to the garden to watch the progress with our sprouts and see what is happening with our decaying pumpkins. In math, the children are making great progress in explaining their thinking while solving word problems.
Today we went to visit the book fair to see what they have to offer.  The quarter ends today and report cards will be out toward the later part of this month.  We have a regular Thursday schedule (8am – 3pm) on November 10th because there is NO school on Friday, November 11th.  It was great to see all the children at Spiders and Cider dressed up and having so much fun.  I enjoyed seeing their reactions to me as well as all around them.  Plus, I loved getting time to spend talking with you.
We are not starting our space unit yet, but there is going to be a super moon on November 14.  Here is a link for more information.  http://www.sciencealert.com/we-re-about-to-see-a-record-breaking-supermoon-the-biggest-and-brightest-in-nearly-70-years

Have a great weekend!
