Dear Families,

Fall has come with a vengeance!  I am so glad the wind did not pick up until after the children were finished with P.E. this week.  I wouldn’t want them blowing away!!!  Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on FRIDAY, November 11th.  Sorry about the confusion with spelling this week.  If it is a short week (anything less than 5 days), we will not do spelling.  We do not want to make it more stressful on children when they have less time to study.  Thank you to all of the families who spent time in the book fair.  I know that all the children were excited to get their new books and I love my new books too!!
We had another busy week in the classroom.  In writing, we started working on editing a story so that we can publish it.  Wednesday, the children read their stories to a friend to get more ideas on what they should add.  We will continue to work on this for the next couple of weeks.  We continued to talk about poetry and in Social Studies we compared two books about being president.  We looked at the election map and discussed the different types of information you can find in a map.  We also started making maps of the garden in groups!  Next week we will compare how they are different.  We talked about elections and the qualities that make a good president.  In math, we are working on the last section of unit 3.  This section looks at larger numbers and accuracy in counting.  It also looks at place value and how to represent it.  I just graded the last assessment on word problems and the children have made great progress on writing out their answers and explaining their thinking, now we just have to attend to precision.  There were many simple mistakes that they may have caught if they rechecked their work.  I am excited how well they are coming along.
This week’s homework is not due until Tuesday, November 22nd.  We will have spelling this week and then we will take the two days off before Thanksgiving and start again the Monday after Thanksgiving holidays.

Have a great long weekend!
