Dear Families,
What
a busy first week back! We had a great
visit to Safeway, Washington Federal Bank and Fire Station 74. The children loved seeing all the businesses.
This week we worked on writing opinion papers, so, of course, we came back from
our field trip and the children wrote an opinion story on which place was the
best to visit and why. We also worked on
retelling a fiction story. While the
children can retell a story, sometime they give too many details, so that is
what we were working on this week. We
will continue our opinion writing and work on using text to help write book
reviews. In social studies we talked
about two topics this week. We looked at
needs vs. wants and goods/services. We
will continue to talk about community next week as we explore our homemade
community in the classroom. In science,
we continued with our animal research projects.
Each group made a storyboard and some started working on their
iMovies. Some of the children have
finished their individual fiction and non-fiction stories. The rest will finish up their stories next
week.
Don’t
forget today was our last time to check out library books. All books are due by May 8th. We will go visit the book fair on Monday,
April 24th.
We have
a lot of upcoming dates to remember this month.
Wednesday, April 19th at 8:40 am is the children’s music
performance. The book fair starts on
Monday April 24th. The Art
Gala is on Friday, April 28th.
We will continue to have early release each week until the last week of
school. Starting next week, we will
start many of our end of the year assessments.
Please make sure you help your child get a great night sleep and strive
for perfect attendance.
I want
to thank all the parent volunteers this week!
It is so wonderful to have all the support. I hope you all enjoyed your time in the
classroom!
Have a great weekend!
