Dear Families,
It was very funny to see the children’s faces Thursday morning
as the announcements commented that it was 27 degrees out and if there was precipitation,
it would be snowing. They all gave me
this quizzical look that said it was not snowing outside, so what are they
talking about. You have to love the
literal minds of six and seven year olds!
As usual, we were very busy this
week. We celebrated the 100th
day with some estimation and probability.
We finished up our unit on measurement where we started on time and
fractions. We will continue to talk
about those two subjects as we head back into addition and subtraction. We started our Objects in Space unit this
week with an overview of the phases of the moon. Your Moon Journals are attached to your
homework. Along with continuing to work
on your Valentine Cards, this will be your homework for the next two weeks. Also attached to
the homework is the order form for the food for the Chinese New Year
Festival. Checks and order forms are to
be dropped in the FFO box in the office please.
In reading and writing, we continue to
work with non-fiction text. We are
asking questions as we read to help us pay closer attention to the text. We are writing how to stories for our pen
pals. The children are still writing
some narratives instead of fact writing, but we continue to write examples as a
group to help them out. Next week we will continue with asking questions while
we read and write informational stories.
We will explore more about the moon and the explorers that have been
there.
In your child’s folder is a book order
this week. You can order online at www.scholastic.com and using code GYL4Z if you have never registered before. You
can order from the flyer I sent home or any flyer on the website. The orders are due on February 8th. I will put the order in some time on the 9th
or 10th. The books will then
get here probably by the end of the following week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Mrs. Berk
