Dear Families,
We
started our science fair project this week.
We made 5 different solutions to try and grow crystals. Our scientific question is which solution
grows the most crystals. All 4 classes
are participating and we will put in our project for the entire first
grade. I am sure on Monday the children
will be super excited to see if we have crystals growing.
We
had another busy week in the classroom.
We continued learning about the moon and other objects in the sky. We will finish up our unit right before Rodeo
Vacation. In math, we continue to talk
about time, fractions, and story problems with missing addends. In reading this week, we worked on reading
informative text and finding the answer in the text. We also continue to work on our wonder
questions and thinking about the answers to them. In writing, we continue to write
informational text. This week we focused
on writing text on a topic like Cheetahs instead of writing how to
stories. We will finish up with our
wonder questions and begin to look at the conventions of a non-fiction
book.
In your
child’s folder is the Math-a-thon papers.
This is a fundraiser for the school.
If you have any questions, please email the coordinators. Please remember that today was the last day
for book orders. Please send in your box
tops next week. They will be picked up
at some point during the week. Please
remember that our new classmate starts on Tuesday, let’s make him feel welcome
by having a Valentine card for him.
I hope to see you at the Chinese Festival tonight!
