Dear Families,
Often
when I put up a new bulletin board, the children are interested, but they know
their own work, so they look at it once and then move on. Yesterday we did a lesson with Mr. Franchart
about respect and how to celebrate the uniqueness of the individual. The follow up activity was for the children
to draw a person, but to divide up the parts on 3 separate papers. The head on one, arms and body on the second,
and the legs on the third. Then I took
the papers with my daughter this morning and we mixed up all of their body
parts to create new unique people. Every
time there was a transition today, they were looking at the board and talking
about the people up there. The
conversations were all kinds and it was great to see all the positive
interactions.
As
we enter February (amazingly) we continue to move along. Their how to informational stories are
starting to shape up. They are putting
in details in order. We will continue
writing those as well as more traditional informational papers. In reading, we are using our outer space unit
to continue to ask questions and take more information out of what we
read. The moon and sun were our focus
this week. We learned more about the
moon and many interesting facts about the sun.
We are reading about Sally Ride and how she became an astronaut. Math we started unit 6 which looks at missing
number word problems with both addition and subtraction, but this week we
continued our discussion on time with a little bit on fractions. Next week we will reverse that and add more
focus on fractions while we continue with chapter 6.
Please
read the homework paper carefully. There
are multiple due dates for items.
Valentines are not due until the 13th, while the rest is due
the 10th. I look forward to
seeing you at the Chinese Festival on Friday from 5 pm to 7:30. The Rodeo Lunch is also coming up soon. There was a new post on the Principal’s blog
about it this week.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Mrs. Berk
