Dear Families,
It
is December! Where did the time go, I am
pretty sure we were sweating just last week because it was 105 degrees. Instead, now I am working hard to remind them
to wear their jackets and not lose them.
Please make sure you label your child’s jacket so if they do leave it
somewhere else, we can try to get it back to them. The lost and found is close to our room, so
if something doesn’t come home, please send me an email and I will send them to
search for the missing items. Our room
varies in temperature. Wearing layers
will help.
I
hope everyone had a lovely 5 day weekend.
I heard about lots of yummy desserts when we were having a math
discussion. In math, we are working on
gathering data and then turning it into a table. Talking about desserts always keeps them
interested. We also continue to solve
word problems on a daily basis. We will
finish up this unit next week and move onto measurement in time/distance, and fractions. In writing, we are finishing up personal
narratives. One story that the lass
wrote is being typed up, then we will illustrate and bind them it into a
book. Our next unit will be
informational writing. I know the
children are ready to move on to a new type of writing and they love to learn
new facts. In reading, we have started
an author study on Robert Munsch. We
discussed the important parts of the book and we will compare them. Next week we will look back at making
connections between characters, points of view, and what we can learn from
characters. We used an experiment with
water and pepper to talk about how you go through the process of scientific
investigation. On Wednesday, we started
our discussion on what is a tradition.
They did a great job being able to separate a tradition from the actual
holiday. Next week, we will do another
experiment to go through the process again and continue to talk about
traditions.
Other
reminders, the food drive ends the 13th of December and the
collections for items for the families are due by the 16th of
December. If you lost the link to sign
up, I have put it up here as a post under Spirit of Sunrise.
Have
a great weekend!
Mrs.
